I have always enjoyed art. As a child, I always had a pencil or paintbrush, camera or recycled sculpture material in hand. In high school, I was able to illustrate a book and participate in a summer visual arts course that solidified my love of creative problem solving and design.
While living in the Washington, DC area a few years ago, I had the privilege to take a workshop on mosaics at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. If you ever get a chance to do this, I highly recommend it! This piqued my interest in the art of mosaic and I overcame my fear of breaking glass. A year later, in Columbia, Missouri, I was able to take one more workshop at Village Glass Works which gave me the confidence to purchase my own tools and get started on my own. I have found that I am inspired by the challenge of representing figures and text in this somewhat crude art form. My love of music seemed to be a perfect match for this medium, although I have done some other pieces as well.
I currently live in Athens, Georgia, where I teach Kindergarten and enjoy piecing together mosaics in my basement studio space.
Cheers,
